About

Born in 1977, in Miaoli, Taiwan, Chiu Chao-Tsai holds an M.F.A. from Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA). Now based in Taipei, Chiu specializes in kinetic art. Interactive installations serve as his primary medium, with participatory engagement shaping the creative process.

His works employ interactive mechanisms to foster a more direct and intimate relationship between the viewer and the artwork, offering a unique momentary escape from reality and our everyday constraints—or, more profoundly, fulfills one’s desire to manipulate and control.

Chiu’s solo exhibitions include A Glimpse of Time and Motion at Project Fulfill Art Space, Taipei, 2021; Light · Scape at IT Park, Taipei, 2016;Crystalline · Realm at BankART Studio NYK, Yokohama, 2015; Light · Substance at Project Fulfill Art Space, Taipei, 2015; The Counterattack of Fatigue at National Central University Art Center, Zhongli ,2102; The World of Fatigue at VT Artsalon, Taipei, 2009; The Object Park of Gravity at Hong-Gah Museum, Taipei, 2004. The group exhibitions include Republic without People at Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts, Kaohsiung , 2011; Memories and Beyond- Kuandu Biennale at Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts,Taipei, 2010;Dream in a contemporary Secret Garden at Chelsea Art Museum / Taipei Cultural Center of TECO in New York, New York, 2009; Speak-Describe – Cross-Strait Contemporary Art at National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung, 2009; Bubble Tea -Art of Taiwan and Its Contemporary Mutations at Moravian Gallery, Brno,Czech, 2008, and etc.

生於台灣苗栗(1977)，畢業於臺北藝術大學美術創作碩士班，現居住、工作於台北。

專長為互動機械裝置。持續以「動態」及「互動」為核心，具互動性的動力機械裝置為媒材進行 創作，關注生活經驗與身體感知等面向。

個展發表為「時･態的凝視」(就在藝術空間，臺北) 、「光‧景」(伊通公園，臺北) 、「淨‧境」(BankART Studio NYK，橫濱，日本)、「光‧ 體」(就在藝術空間，臺 北)。重要聯展有「一座島嶼的可能性」臺灣美術雙年展(國立臺灣美術 館，臺中)、「界:臺灣當代藝術展」(康乃爾大學強生美 術館，伊薩卡，美國)、「分裂‧臺灣 2.0」 (Collegium Hungaricum Berlin，柏林，德國)、「理解的尺度」臺泰當代藝術交流展(曼谷 藝術 文化中心，曼谷，泰國)、「記憶的總和」關渡雙年展(關渡美術館，臺北)…等等。
